| | | | by John Haney posted 01/10/2010 US Lacrosse announced yesterday that the Janesville Lacrosse Club has been awarded an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) grant. The grant will provide the club with an AED at a significantly reduced price. Also, included with the grant is a high-quality, 3-hour training session on AED/CPR for the club's responder team. The AED and the training are provided by Cardiac Science. Cardiac Science is working in conjunction with US Lacrosse to provide these grants to qualifying programs. This is exciting news for the Janesville Lacrosse Club. The AED and corresponding training are consistent with the club's number one priority which is to provide the safest possible environment for our participants.

posted 01/08/2010 The Janesville Lacrosse Club is looking for volunteer assistant coaches. With the addition of youth lacrosse this spring, the club will be in need of coaching help. No prior lacrosse knowledge is required! We understand that lacrosse is a relatively new sport in the area and most people in this area don't have a lacrosse background. That's OK. We'll help get you up to speed. In addition to our help, US Lacrosse offers certification programs geared toward the lacrosse beginner. They offer on-line courses and a live workshops. In fact, a US Lacrosse workshop will be held in Milwaukee on February 20, 2010.
If you have a passion for coaching and a desire to learn something new, now is your opportunity to get involved with the fastest growing team sport in North America.
Former JLC players are also welcomed to get involved. Volunteering is great way to stay involved in the sport and to bolster your resume.
Interested individuals should contact John Haney at 608-758-1791 or

LACROSSE TODAY
from US Lacrosse
For the last decade, lacrosse has been one of the fastest-growing team sports in the country. US Lacrosse chapters have been established in 39 states and more than 500,000 played on organized teams in 2008 compared to just over 250,000 in 2001. Youth lacrosse participation has more than doubled in just seven years. This fall, North Carolina and South Carolina became the 19th and 20th state high school associations to formally recognize or sanction lacrosse as an official sport. The collegiate level has seen dramatic geographic expansion in the last few years, and that trend continues. Alabama,Colorado, Nebraska, Texas and Wisconsin are among the many states that have new varsity collegiate programs coming within the next two years. Even NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse, which has significant challenges that have limited its growth, will have 60 programs operating in 2010, an all-time high. Lacrosse has become a staple of the college-based television channels CBS College Sports and ESPNU. More than 60 men’s and women’s games appeared on the networks the last two years with many more on regional cable networks. The NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship has begun routinely drawing crowds in the neighborhood of 50,000 for games played in NFL stadiums.
The sport also receives additional exposure through several sport-specific print and Internet-based publications, including Lacrosse Magazine, a monthly periodical that is mailed to each of the 275,000-plus US Lacrosse members; Lacrosse Magazine Online(www.laxmagazine.com), a news-based Web site; and the US Lacrosse Web site
(www.uslacrosse.org), which provides extensive background information about the sport and the leadership provided by US Lacrosse to support the sport’s healthy growth.

posted 11/22/2009 The Board of Directors for the Janesville Lacrosse Club voted to pursue the formation of two new youth teams for the spring of 2010. The teams will be traveling teams and play in the Madison Area Lacrosse Association (MALA) youth divisions. The new teams will be a Boy's Senior Division team (grades 7-8) and a Boy's Junior Division team (4-6 grade). The final details have yet to be worked out and the formation of these two teams is based on a minimum level of interest.
In general, it is anticipated that the practice will be begin in mid to late March. The regular season runs from April 10, 2010 through May 16, 2010 with playoffs to follow. Games are typically played on Saturdays. Practice schedules have yet to be decided but practices will probably be 2-3 days a week. Home games and practices will take place at Optimist Park in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Players will be expected to provide their own equipment and every effort will be made to keep registration fees to a minimum. The target fee is around $100 per player and includes a mandatory US Lacrosse membership.
With this announcement, there is also a need for volunteer assistant coaches. If you or someone you know is interested in helping out, please let us know. Even if you are unfamiliar with the sport lacrosse, don't worry. The Janesville Lacrosse Club will work with interested individuals to get them acclimated.
We hope to have final details within the next couple weeks. It is our goal to get the word prior to Christmas. Remember: Lacrosse equipment makes a great Christmas gift.
Please keep checking back to this website for more details.
